When did Halloween become a season?

Something has been bugging me.

When did Halloween become a season instead of a one night ritual?

I have lived in this evolution and participated in it but am still not sure how it all happened.
Back in the day when I was a tot, we raced home from school, ate our hamburger helper, got dressed in our bulky hot snowsuit THEN and only THEN did we get to adorn and show off to the world our costume. We had three I can remember that rotated between my sisters and I. Little Miss Muffett, Nurse, and Spider-man. Must have been a sale at Woolworth’s. The nurse didn’t have a mask but it did have the traditional hat (which they still wore in the 1970’s)…  I am not saying that how we celebrate today is wrong…I mean who doesn’t like going to party after party week after week dressing up four people in multiple costumes multiple times??? The kids love it and therefore I do it with a smile…and a smirk underneath. I have never really loved Halloween. Could be I am a scardy cat, or maybe my fear of the dark plays a part? Possibly because I never felt cool as a kid in my costume – I was too busy worrying about the event, I didn’t put much time or thought into the actual costume. The lights and decorations do add a sense of wonder – but are Halloween themed pop-up stores and weeks of parties going overboard? What are your thoughts?

Welcome to The Great 38.

Earlier this year a friend of mine mentioned she read an article saying the age 38 will be the best year of your life. Ironically, she and I both turn 38 this year. Since the last few years have been filled with some wild roller coaster rides I am really hoping the article is right.  I have been thinking of starting a blog for awhile so here I go on the eve of my 38th birthday jumping in and publishing my thoughts to the World Wide Web.

I ask for your patience blogging is new to me. This blog is a work in process and I will be developing it a little at a time. My goal is to have several pages covering a variety of topics. Thanks for stopping by and don’t forget to subscribe.  Check back in soon.
