Comment: Make the tough calls on mental health care to keep schools safe from shootings

I could not agree with this more. Mental check ups should be done with your annual physical..And until 18 in school. Every school needs a social worker and the kids need a safe place to express and talk privately without judgement.

Senseless tragedies like the mass shooting that occurred on Dec. 14 are hard to comprehend. It is one thing to die in a battle zone — where deaths are an unfortunate yet expected outcome — but it is another thing altogether when the deaths occur as a mass murder in a theoretically “safe zone.” This time 26 lives were taken — 20 children aged 6 to 7 and six adults — in the serene setting of Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
